Introducing Eivind

Eivind is a big man from Norway and yet he has a heart for those hurting on the other side of the world. A few years ago, we met on board the MV Liberty in Papua New Guinea. I was crewing as an AB Seaman for their last outreach to the Island of Bougainville, and he was serving as Purser and Community Engagement Leader.

Deeply Felt Calling

Our paths have crossed over recent years, most notably in New Zealand when visiting the MV Koha in Tauranga. He shared with me his deeply felt calling to serve people of the isolated communities of the Solomon Islands. A year later, and he has begun to pioneer a sailing vision at YWAM Solomons - a ministry located in Honiara which provides training (Bible, Discipleship and Community Technology) and community development (water well-drilling and associated infrastructure), and now is expanding its reach among the island communities using sailboats.
Biblical Safety Principles

Knowing of our mission to support ministries through seamanship and safety training, he contacted us to explore the potential of teaching biblical safety principles as they pertain to the maritime setting, and we have had some great conversations for partnering with YWAM Solomons. But even now, with the pandemic passing in some regions of the world but not others, it is difficult to travel. So, we are working towards a hybrid program of live teaching and online curriculum.
"Our vision is to reach out to people living in remote places in Solomon Islands and beyond to bring the Gospel in word and in deed. We see sailboats as a perfect tool for this."

Foundational Training

Although technical in nature, establishing a biblical worldview on safety and seamanship is foundational for our training, and will set the stage well for the future as they expand their fleet of sailing vessels to serve the Solomon Islanders throughout these remote and amazing islands!

Do you know where the Solomon Islands are?
Solomon Islands
Solomon Islands is a Pacific nation consisting of 992 islands, whereas 347 islands are inhabited [1]. The infrastructure in the islands is very limited, and some islands only have ships come by a couple of times a year.
