Safe arrival after a 6,500 nautical mile sail
We are thrilled to share the latest news of one of the maritime medical vessels we have been praying for and are so excited to be partnering with in future, as we consider her training needs.
The Island Reach has safely arrived in Madagascar after a grueling 6,500 nm (nautical miles) sail from Conwy, Wales in the United Kingdom to Diego Suarez, on the northern tip of Madagascar!
We first shared about this vessel three years ago here! It has taken time and the commitment of many volunteers and donors, to make this sail a reality!
Any sail has its risks and so many opportunities for difficulties. With the current unrest in the world, especially in the Middle East, it was by God's hand that the delivery crew and vessel were unhampered by mechanical issues and external effects.

And now the work begins to use her to serve the remote peoples of this Island nation. The YWAM ministry who will be utilizing this medical vessel has been ministering to the Malagasy peoples for seventeen years and now can reach even the remotest of communities with care and love.
The vessel now must go through a process to register her there in the country and the recruitment of doctors and nurses is underway. The delivery crew have now left for their home ports and a skeleton crew have taken her over. Thank you all for keeping her and the crew in prayer.

We are especially grateful that the recent Tropical Cyclone Chido, which caused such heartbreaking devastation to the neighboring island of Mayotte, did not cause damage to the vessel. The storm passed close to northern tip of Madagascar in mid-December, so the new crew took her to a sheltered location and anchored. Thankfully, the storm passed over them with no problems on board.
We look forward to sharing more how MAST Global will be working to support this and other vessels in the New Year.
